About OKLCH and Display P3

OKLCH is OKLab in polar form: lightness, chroma and hue. Tailwind CSS v4 uses it for its whole palette because changing lightness keeps the hue stable.

Display P3 is the wide color gamut of modern Apple screens and many phones. It reaches about 25% more colors than sRGB and is written as color(display-p3 r g b).

How the conversion works

We read the OKLCH value, convert it to CIE XYZ with the matrices from the CSS Color 4 specification and then into Display P3. Values outside the target gamut are mapped by the CSS Color 4 algorithm, which keeps lightness and hue and reduces chroma.
