About Display P3 and HEX

Display P3 is the wide color gamut of modern Apple screens and many phones. It reaches about 25% more colors than sRGB and is written as color(display-p3 r g b).

HEX writes red, green and blue as two hexadecimal digits each, like #ff5733. It is the most common way to write colors on the web and in design tools.

How the conversion works

We read the Display P3 value, convert it to CIE XYZ with the matrices from the CSS Color 4 specification and then into HEX. Values outside the target gamut are mapped by the CSS Color 4 algorithm, which keeps lightness and hue and reduces chroma.
