About XYZ D65 and Display P3

CIE XYZ is the reference space every other space is defined from. Converters use it as the common ground between formats.

Display P3 is the wide color gamut of modern Apple screens and many phones. It reaches about 25% more colors than sRGB and is written as color(display-p3 r g b).

How the conversion works

We read the XYZ D65 value, convert it to CIE XYZ with the matrices from the CSS Color 4 specification and then into Display P3. Values outside the target gamut are mapped by the CSS Color 4 algorithm, which keeps lightness and hue and reduces chroma.
